In its seventh edition, the Day of Good Actions – the largest volunteering movement in the world, promoted to mobilize and awaken people, organizations and companies to social action – began this Friday, December 3, with a face-to-face action in Grajaú , in the southern region of São Paulo, close to the international volunteer day, celebrated on December 5th.

This action marks the resumption of actions after the most acute period of the pandemic, which includes agroforestry planting, environmental workshops and artistic-cultural interventions.

The initiative is organized by Atados, a social platform that connects people and organizations to facilitate engagement in the most diverse possibilities of volunteering, in partnership with Muda Cultural and support from the Instituto Anchieta Grajaú Institute. The project is made possible through PROMAC-SP and sponsored by Grupo Big.

About 60 volunteers will support the event in two shifts, morning and afternoon, exceeding the organization’s expectations. Atados also organizes transportation and food for the participants.

Good Deeds Day: Event Activities

The Instituto Anchieta Grajaú, which hosts the event at its headquarters, will host painting activities with the plastic artist Celeste, environmental workshops with the Dedo Verde collective, held near the vegetable garden and the agroforestry planting zone, in addition to the planting of 40 trees.

Coletivo Salve Selva, made up of artists and educators from the Grajaú district, will create graffiti with the support of volunteers. And the event also has a stencil workshop that will propose experimentation and critical reflection through works carried out in different formats.

Presentation Os Crespos – African Experiences, Stories and Games – Culture and Play

During the presentation, participants will have contact with African and Afro-Brazilian games and games from some of the more than 50 countries on the African continent.

Stories, songs and general knowledge of the culture and worldview of different peoples and regions will be presented. In addition to the above activities, Atados will have an animation team for children.

Dia das Boas Ações

Understanding volunteer work through the Atados platform

To learn more about the actions, Lupa do Bem spoke with Rosa Diaz, spokesperson for Atados, who points out changes in the volunteer profile during the pandemic, in addition to a 53.7% growth in new subscribers on the platform’s website.

“Expectations are super high, the Anchieta Grajaú Institute is also hoping that it will be a very joyful and very light action for children. And also for them it will be one of the first actions with external people after this pandemic period. And Atados itself, the last action we took was at the IAG in 2019. So we closed a cycle with them and are now resuming this cycle with very high expectations. We are all happy and anxious with the hope that next year we will be able to carry out more actions”, said Rosa Diaz.

This is the first of the 5 actions that celebrate the Day of Good Actions that will take place in the coming months in the city of São Paulo. Rosa points out that the context of the pandemic has expanded many people’s view of volunteer work.

Dia das boas ações

“Brazil has always been a country with many social issues and with the pandemic this was very wide open. I think this will last because they are people who know projects, fall in love, know the reality and see that it is not just a one-off thing and end up becoming volunteers forever and bringing more people to this support. These actions and the pandemic encouraging people to be volunteers, to be more supportive, end up making people understand the social sector more, seek to learn more and be more participatory. One thing we talk a lot at Atados is about volunteering being active citizen participation. How do you turn your key from a punctual action to a recurring action, of constant exchange”, concluded Rosa Diaz.
