Professional organization inserts young people into the job market

Espro promotes the training and insertion of socially vulnerable young people into the job market through social learning

2022 data from the Undersecretariat of Statistics and Labor Studies, of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, revealed that 7.1 million young people between 14 and 24 years old do not study or work.

Aware of the challenges of this population, Vocational Social Education (Espro) works, free of charge, to insert young people and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability into the job market, through young apprentice and internship programs.

Lupa do Bem visited Espro last Thursday (21). We visited the facilities at the Brasilândia unit, in the north of São Paulo, and spoke to students and professionals. On the occasion, the students had a lecture on ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance sustainability).

Edilson, 17 years old, says that he found out about the institution through a friend and that this broadened his horizons. “Before working, I didn’t have any perspective on training after high school. Now, I have found a goal: accounting sciences at USP.”

João, 19 years old, works at a gas export company and says that the opportunity helped him understand the professional world and how important it was for his life.

Wellbeing beyond the workplace

Operating for 46 years, the organization serves around 40 thousand young people annually in 8 branches. It also has 55 regional centers spread across the country, reaching 1,067 municipalities. There is also the option of distance learning teaching in places where there are no physical units.

“For these young people with access difficulties, we provide a tablet and a sim card with mobile data”, explains Maísa Rigoli, Espro’s Educational Coordinator.

To help them throughout their journey, the entity has a multidisciplinary team with an in-class instructor, social worker, development analyst and psychologist.

Maísa highlights that hiring this audience is also a growth opportunity for companies. “The young apprentice program is a way of capturing and training talent. So, learning brings a training process along with every activity.”

She explains that the young people assisted work 4 days at the company and go once a week to Espro for theoretical activities, varying between 4h and 6h, depending on their working hours.

In the classroom, different contents are covered. “We talk about sexuality, drugs, logistics, people management, the environment, as well as the job market. There are apprentices from different companies there, so we work on content in general, so they have the possibility of exchanging, and learning about different ways of working, tools and resources. Add a lot to this process of practice and theory.”

In addition to professional training, Espro also aims to train citizens. Therefore, it offers income generation workshops, home visits to ensure the well-being of young people and their families, coexistence workshops and mapping of social conditions.

How does it work?

To participate in Espro, it is not necessary to take a test, just register on the institution’s website. Upon completion, the young person becomes available in the talent pool. As opportunities arise, the organization forwards 3 to 5 profiles to the company, which makes the selection.

However, it is important to remember that to be a young apprentice, you must be between 14 and 24 years old, be studying or have already completed high school.
