The project brings affection, attention, consolation, and hope for a better life for vulnerable people. We all have dreams, but some people dream beyond their personal context: they dream of helping others. This is the case of David Silva, who dreamed of feeding people and has achieved this desire through the project, Comida de Favela Pra Favela (Food from Favela to Favela).

It all started in May 2017, when David, seeing the needs of these people, was able to find a solution for founding the project with the help of some of his friends Antonio Carlos, Denis Serafim, and their respective wives. Over the years, new people were invited to join the volunteer team in the initiative.

How and where does it happen?

Every Monday, the group of volunteers meets to transform donated food into food, thus assembling around 400 lunch boxes to be distributed during the week. The food is made in the kitchen of a concert hall, provided by the owner. In some events held, the public, instead of paying the ticket, contributes 1 kg of non-perishable food. The lunch boxes are distributed in needy communities in the region of São Matheus, east of São Paulo.

The beneficiary public are people in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability and who live in the aforementioned areas. Volunteer Adriana, 35 years old, says that the group has never stopped to count exactly the total number of people assisted to date, but that the members have already assisted thousands of people, including men, women, young people and children.

The project’s goal is to increase the number of 400 lunch boxes and serve more and more people – and, for that, it needs more help. Be it financial, material or in the form of volunteering.

The group does not just bring food to these people: the members also bring affection, attention, comfort, and hope for a better life to all these people, because, according to them, solidarity can make the world a better place. They also organize dinners and other activities to raise funds for commemorative parties such as Children’s Day, Christmas, Easter, and celebrations dates.

Adriana, when questioned about the impact caused on the people assisted, replies that the greatest impact is gratitude.

“It’s great to find the families waiting for us every time we arrive in the communities. They count on us and trust us, it’s as if they feel supported by us. I feel a great satisfaction in knowing that with so little and with simple actions, we managed to benefit so many people”, she says.

Adriana makes a point of emphasizing that all help is very welcome.
